Brisbane Lions

The Brisbane Lions – An Unparalleled Level of Talent

The Brisbane Lions are an Australian rules football team based in the city of Brisbane, Queensland. Founded as the Fitzroy Football Club in 1897, they are one of the oldest clubs in the competition and currently play in the AFL’s premier league.

In 1996, the Fitzroy Lions and the Brisbane Bears merged to form the Brisbane Lions, a team that would go on to make history. The merger was not an easy one, as both teams had to come to terms with merging their separate identities and histories. The team moved to the Gabba and quickly established themselves as a force to be reckoned with and together, they would rise from the ashes to become one of the most successful teams in the AFL.

Throughout their storied history, the Brisbane Lions have had a long list of talented players grace their pitch. From Jonathan Brown to Simon Black and Luke Hodge, some of the most decorated players in league history have called this club home – and that doesn’t even touch upon their current star-studded roster!

While they’ve had success on and off the field since entering the AFL, recent years have seen them reach unprecedented heights – winning three consecutive flags from 2001 to 2003 under coach Leigh Matthews. This remarkable period solidified their legacy as one of Australia’s most successful modern sports teams.

Attending a game is truly a unique experience for all involved – there’s simply nothing quite like being surrounded by loyal fans clad in maroon and blue. The Gabba provides an electric atmosphere where it feels like anything can happen on any given day. When it comes to entertainment value, you won’t find many teams that can match up to these boys and girls.
