The Brisbane Lions are an Australian rules football team based in the city of Brisbane, Queensland. Founded as the Fitzroy Football Club in 1897, they are one of the oldest clubs in the competition and currently play in the AFL’s premier league.

In 1996, the Fitzroy Lions and the Brisbane Bears merged to form the Brisbane Lions, a team that would go on to make history. The merger was not an easy one, as both teams had to come to terms with merging their separate identities and histories.
